What is "FAITH-PROMISE GIVING?"

The believer looks to the Lord "in faith" asking how much he would have the believer give; then promises to give as the Lord directs.

What is the biblical basis of FAITH-PROMISE GIVING?

Second Corinthians, chapters 8 and 9, forms the general basis for FAITH-PROMISE GIVING. Chapter 8, verse 3, mentions "to their power" and "beyond their power." "To their power" or according to their power, relates especially to tithes and offerings, or known sources of income. "Beyond their power" relates in a unique way to FAITH-PROMISE GIVING, since looking beyond any known sources of income is to look to the Lord for His special enabling.

What is the relationship between the FAITH-PROMISE plan and the paying of tithes, or the giving of offerings?

Tithes and offerings are taught in the Word of God and are urgently needed in the work of the church. But these are not sufficient to get the gospel to the world in this generation. Tithes and offerings look to, and depend on, a stated income. FAITH-PROMISE looks directly to God, asking in effect: "How much can I trust God to give through me?" This offers God a channel through which He can pour limitless amounts into His work through His children.

Are "FAITH-PROMISES" pledges?

No, FAITH-PROMISES are not pledges. A pledge is horizontal, made to a church, society, or other worthy cause. The FAITH-PROMISE is vertical, being made between the believer and the Lord. If at the end of the year God has not enabled the person to meet his FAITH-PROMISE commitment, the matter is only between that person and the Lord.

How should FAITH-PROMISE commitments be made?

It is best that commitments be made at a missions conference time. If no such conference is held in the local church, it would be well for the church to have a missions Sunday and the commitments can be made at any time. The amount needs to be clearly indicated per week, per month, or per year.

Are FAITH-PROMISE commitments usually paid?

Yes. The history of the FAITH-PROMISE plan of giving is that the person, or church, usually has invested more in the Lord's work at the end of the year than the total commitment made. Since God is included in this unique partnership, it is His privilege to pour out a su-perabundance of blessings.

What is the advantage of FAITH-PROMISE GIVING?

The advantage is that in this plan God can get 100 percent of what He desires and directs into His work, while in the tithing plan God must give $10,000 to get $1,000 into His work. With offerings as the basis of giving, God may need to put $20,000 to $50,000 into the hands of His children to get $1,000 into His work.

Does FAITH-PROMISE GIVING really make us channels of blessing?

Yes--in a unique sense. If God so directs and desires, He can actually pour the thousands, even millions, of dollars directly into His work when He knows that his children will be unob-structed channels. He cares for His children's needs through their regular salaries or in-comes, but the FAITH-PROMISE looks to the Lord especially for what He may desire to do through His children over and above salary, bank account, or income from any known or anticipated source.

What is the motivating power in FAITH-PROMISE GIVING?

The power of the Lord working through the willing partner is the key to FAITH-PROMISE GIVING. One's faith in God's ability to provide the full amount and the faithfulness to make the promise are the key. This type of giving is limited only by God's purpose.

Country: Haiti
Status: GO-Net Employee
Email: janice.cotrone@gponline.org

Janice Cotrone is a registered nurse and a lifelong Wesleyan from Virginia. After five short-term trips to Haiti, she sensed God was calling her to full-time service.

A graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU), she served the Wesleyan Hospital in Haiti for nearly 20 years in the areas of caregiving, administrating, and teaching in the two-year nursing school. In 1996 she married Rev. Mitchell Cotrone, Wesleyan missionary to Colombia. They served four years in Haiti, adopting three Haitian children while there.

In 2001 the Cotrones returned to the United States to pastor Hope Wesleyan Church in Naples, Florida. During those years, they established Haitian and Hispanic Wesleyan congregations. They are now retired in Mansfield, Missouri. God has called Janice to return to Haiti to establish the Wesleyan University of Haiti, School of Nursing Sciences. This is a four-year, liberal arts program. The school launched in October 2014. Students will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Janice holds a master’s degree in community health nursing from IWU and has completed post-master’s studies as a nurse educa-tor. She is pursuing a doctoral degree from IWU. Pray for her. As the Dean of the School of Nursing Sciences, she spends two weeks each month in Haiti. She teaches via Skype when in the United States. Her heart’s desire is to prepare quality nurses, dis-cipling them as lighthouses for Jesus to lead precious souls to the cross.

GREG EDMONDS

MISSIONARY DETAILS

Fund #: WM04-0438
Country: Haiti
Status: GO-Net Employee
Email: greg.edmonds@gponline.org

Greg and his family served for three years with Global Partners as missionaries to Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. Greg served as compound manager and oversaw the construction of the new La Gonave Guesthouse and Ministry Center. Heidi trained the guesthouse staff, and together they helped host over 100 short-term mission teams.

In early 2016 God reminded Greg about the clear call to missions that he received while serving on a mission trip to Nicaragua in 2009. God impressed this thought on Greg’s heart that day, “You were born in America so you can do exactly what you are doing right now . . . reaching out to those less fortunate in my name.”

Global Partners appointed Greg as a missionary in October 2016. His first assignment is to recruit and lead mission teams to Haiti to rebuild the churches that were destroyed in the October 2016 hurricane. Greg is passionate about engaging short-term teams with God’s global mission “to seek and to save the lost.”

Daniel went on his first short-term mission trip to Haiti in 2009. He immediately fell in love with the country and the people. He carried that excitement home with him and shared it with Dean-na. Over the next eight years, they both returned regularly to Haiti for short-term trips where they developed a burden for the many needs there.

In 2016 they felt called to go and serve as long-term missionaries to Haiti. They are excited to be used in whatever ways God needs them.

. . I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle;
be patient, bearing with one another in love
